Atrial Fibrillation

This is a condition where the heart rhythm can be irregular and fast. It is the most common arrhythmia (or abnormal heart rhythm) of the heart, and happens to many people as they get older. This condition makes people much more likely to have a stroke, so most patients are put on blood thinners to lower this risk, and other medicines to slow the heart to prevent it from going too fast.

Coumadin This medicine thins your blood to lower your risk of stroke.
Diltiazem This medicine helps control your heart rate from going too fast.

COPD Exacerbation

COPD is a disease that occurs mostly in people who have smoked for a long time. It causes trouble breathing and leads to higher risks of infections in the lungs, and is usually treatment with antibiotics when it gets worse.

Azithromycin This medicine fights lung infections that cause a COPD exaceration.

Heart Burn

Heart burn is a common complaint of burning in the upper stomach and sometimes in the chest, after eating spicy foods, choccolate, coffee, or other foods.

Omeprazole This medication helps prevent heart burn symptoms and helps heal stomach ulcers.

Heart Health/Prevention

People who have multiple cardiovascular (heart) problems are frequently given blood thinners to prevent more serious or repeated problems like heart attacks and strokes.

Aspirin This medication helps prevent heart attacks and strokes by thinning the blood.

Heart Failure (Congestive Heart Failure)

Heart failure is a condition that usually occurs from prior heart attacks or having high blood pressure for a long time. It occurs when the heart cannot deal with the stressors placed on it, and can cause fluid build up in the lungs and legs most frequently. It is important to control blood pressure and diet as well as take pills to help urinate out the extra fluid build up.

Atenolol This medication helps lower your blood pressure.
Lasix This medication helps lower your blood pressure and remove excess fluid buildup in your legs and lungs.

High Blood Pressure (Hypertension)

High blood pressure is the "silent killer," because it causes heart attacks, strokes, and kidney failure but typically does not come with any symptoms. It is usually not a problem in the short term, but over many years of high blood pressure it can cause problems. It is treated with medicines to lower the blood pressure.

Atenolol This medication helps lower your blood pressure.
Diltiazem This medication helps lower your blood pressure.
Lisinopril This medication helps lower your blood pressure.

High Cholesterol (Hyperlipidemia)

High cholesterol is linked to heart attacks, strokes, and other problems. Diet plays a role in cholesterol, but so does exercise. If cholesterol cannot be improved with diet, some patients are put on pills to fix the cholesterol problem.

Lipitor This medication helps lower your cholesterol.

Low Thyroid (Hypothyroidism)

The thyroid is a gland in your neck that regulates your entire body -- temperature, burning calories, blood pressure, and even concentration and anxiety. If it is too low, the thyroid hormone can be replaced to balance out the body.

Synthroid This medication helps balance your thyroid levels.

Pain (Musculoskeletal Pain)

Pain (especially back pain) is a chronic problem affecting most people, and hard to get rid of. Physical therapy and daily exercise are usually the best treatments in the long term to prevent pain and prevent it from getting worse, but pain medicines can also help with the pain gets more severe.

Ibuprofen This medication helps control pain.
Oxycodone This medication helps control pain.

My Labs and Imaging Tests

Alert: Mildly Low Potassium

Alert: Abnormally High INR, Increased Risk of Bleeding

Summary

Alerts:

  • Your potassium is mildly low.
  • Your INR test is abnormally elevated today, which increases your risk of bleeding.
  • Your mild anemia is stable and not worsening and does not require a blood transfusion.
  • Your kidney function has improved since the last time it was checked.
  • Your urine test showed no signs of infection.
  • Your diabetes sugar tests show good blood sugar control. Good job!

See details about your recent imaging tests on the left.

Bleeding Tests

  • Mild anemia
  • Normal platelets
  • INR test abnormally high

Anemia (Low Blood Count) Tests

Anemia is tested by the hemoglobin and hematocrit tests. A higher level is usually better, and suggests no anemia. A low number can be due to bleeding, iron deficiency, or many other causes. If the level is too low, it may require a blood transfusion or admission to the hospital to determine why it is so low.

Hover over the lab bar to see actual numbers.

Your level is mildly low. Your doctor may want to do further testing.

Platelet Tests

Platelets are made by the body and help it form blood clots to stop bleeding. Platelets can be low in liver diseases and autoimmune diseases or from bleeding or cancers. If the platelet level is very low or you are at risk of bleeding it may require a transfusion of platelets.

Prior Level My Level
Very Low

Normal

Your level is normal.

Blood Thinning Tests (INR)

Your liver makes natural blood thinners for your body to help it from clotting too easily. Sometimes doctors also give other medicines to help thin the blood further (like coumadin, lovenox, or pradaxa) to lower the risk of stroke or other serious blood clots in the body.

Prior Level My Level
Normal
Goal for You
High
Dangerously High

You are on coumadin, which thins your blood. Your level is too high, which increases your risk of bleeding too easily. Your doctor may want you to skip a dose of the coumadin or get a repeat level this week.

Electrolyte Tests

  • Sodium normal
  • Potassium mildly low
  • Calcium normal

Sodium Tests

Sodium is the most common electrolyte in your blood, if it is too low or high it can cause weakness, seizures, and coma; it can become low or high due to dehydration, medications, or fluid buildup in the body from kidney or heart problems.

Kidney and Liver Tests

  • Kidney function improved

Kidney Function Tests

The kidneys filter waste out of your body, regulate fluids and electrolytes in your body, and make urine. If your kidney function is abnormally high or worsening, your doctor may recommend dialysis. They kidney function can worsen due to dehydration, kidney problems, or urine obstruction. A lower level is better.

Blood Sugar Tests

The blood sugar test Hemoglobin A1C is a test that helps your doctor track your blood sugars over the past 3 months. A lower number is better, but all patients with diabetes will have a higher number than patients without diabetes.
